The Rise and Fall of Donald J. Trump

The Rise and Fall of Donald J. Trump

"The magnetism and charisma of this man was phenomenal.  The enthusiasm and facial expressions of the the attendants of his election rallies was clearly proof of that.  And this magnetism was probably largely responsible for the electoral outcome.  He was an outstanding and dangerous populist and demagogue, who clearly voiced what most voters wanted to hear."--B.R. Teicher, For all it was worth, commenting on Adolph Hitler's rise to power in Nazi Germany.

During my educational years and since, I, like you, have heard the term fascist and fascism, but never really gave it much thought other than to consider it in the context of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and all the other early 20th century European leaders that formed the Axis in WWII.  What I have come to realize is, these guys all asked the same question.  How can I become bigger than myself?   This of course was cloaked in rhetoric about the plight of the working man, but at the end of the day, they wanted power.  Don't we all?  The difference being, they were able to take control over well meaning, thinking people by propaganda and force.  We gave the job to a reality T.V. personality!

This past month has, I hope, shown both DJT and the American people what the country is capable of.  Our handpicked Supreme Court handed the Trump administration two loses, his campaign rally turnout was a disaster, and all he and his staff can do is blame the other guy.  That other guy is the American people, expressing their displeasure with the way things are going.  I find it hard to believe that many U.S. citizens are happy with 2-million Covid-19 cases and 120,000 deaths.  His foreign diplomacy is a shambles with all of his sucking up to dictators, tyrants, and just plain bad people.  His racist remarks during his rallies should in the wake of George Floyd's murder, pretty much piss off all but the 6200 people that attended the funeral dirge of a rally.  The American people, from where I'm standing are simply fed up with his bullshit.

The numbers of the Saturday night rally are more telling that just, was it Covid -19?  Or, 95-degree heat?  Or, other protesters?  Or, any of the other possibilities that the administration has floated out there.  How about, 6,200 out of 19,000 is roughly a 33% occupancy rate for the BOK arena.  Based on the latest polling numbers, that is in the ballpark of Trump's job approval rating.  So you have dead red state and only 33% of the possible seats are filled.  I really think that is a clue to how the people feel.

Here we have a person that was not prepared to govern.  His needs for self aggrandizement are too great and when all you do is self-promote then you never really have time to delve into other peoples problems.  Those problems of the nation.  He truly has no idea how to run a lemonade stand, let alone the strongest nation on the planet.  His fall this past week or two has be nothing short of spectacular.  With his track record of self-immolation, we should continue see this trend for the next several months.  With a degree of luck, his pattern will continue to alienate voters and assure that he is not successful in gaining a second term.  I would hate to see him in his bunker with a 9-mm pistol, pulling a Hitler.  He still has many other things to answer for.
